Around 1974, 75, when I started writing poetry, soon came to me the desire to turn them into songs. But I had just a little problem: I didn’t know how to compose and didn’t have any musical instruction. I started singing in the school choir and most of the time I only opened my mouth to fake singing the songs. I was very out of tune. I started some guitar classes, but I couldn’t do much. The teacher once “joked” with me saying “Little boy, hear me, as a musician you are a great poet!” How dare he? Hahaha… He was partly right, I really was horrible at my playing and had no idea how to sing in tune. I couldn’t even tell the difference between to different notes. Still I wanted to make it happen. I believed that my poems would be great in form of songs, and I didn’t gave up.

Step by step I started composing my own songs (I registered over 100 songs, but I only remember the melody of ten of them). In 1983 there was not only me anymore, there were us. I now was the husband of Lady Ranúzia. I remember the first time she sang one of my songs… wow, what a difference. Her voice! The way she sang! In 1985 we created together a musical group called Shekiná that lasted until 1988.

With the end of our group, a little unintentionally, we started to do gigs as a duo. God put in our lives two amazing bothers, Rogério and Gláucia Carvalho. It seems like there is, in our musical work, a before and after these good and talented friends. After this, we met Sidney Brito, one of the best arrangers that I saw at work. With their help, we got very far. From pubs to little and big churches. In the streets or in cultural projects promoted by the government. All over the country and even out of it. I really don’t like fame, but I got to recognize that the duo João Inácio & Ranúzia sometimes were on the highlights.

Together we recorded 4 albums (C ertas Canções, Sal da terra brasis, O eterno em mim eMontes) and I produced to albums sang by Ranúzia with renditions of traditional hymns (Grata Memória – Voz, Piano e Emoção, Volumes 1 e 2) and with the accompaniment of the excellent pianist Andreiev Kalupniek. Besides my own works, I produced albums of other musicians, like Natal Instrumental, by Norma Lilian and Marília Gonzaga, and also Salmos, as Canções de Deus, psalms read by Rev. Adail Sandoval.

Today, I say that music was a river that flowed through my life. Everything had its time. It was a precious experience. Thanks to that, I now know how music should what is the place of music in a film, for example. In 2012, informally and unpretentiously, we saw that it was necessary to set end a cycle and after that go in another path. So, in my fiftieth birthday we recorded a DVD entitled Lá em Casa. Nothing special or over the top. We just united some friends at our house and recorded some songs of our repertoire in a DVD that was handed freely to those friends (no, it isn’t for sale).
